Representing more of the -billy side of rockabilly, Mississippi’s Ernie Chaffin brought country sentimentality to the guitar-driven tracks he recorded at Sun Studios, in a markedly less edgy style than his contemporaries. Beautiful medleys almost underproduced by Sam Phillips, the best of Ernie’s Sun recordings are represented on Sun Records Originals: Born to Lose. Named after Ernie’s version of the country standard, “Born to Lose” joins tracks like “Feelin’ Low,” “Lonesome For My Baby,” “No Fool Like and Old Fool,” and even a few tracks new to digital streaming.
